Question: Hi, all:
We need to move all scheduled backgound jobs of one ID to another ID.
I have searched the forum and found the procedure which I can follow to copy all the jobs.
The post I am referring to is at :
/forums/viewtopic.php?t=24498&highlight=copy+background+job
In the last step of the procedure, it says that:
"Log off, log on with own ID and change the background user ID to "system" or "background" (Version dependent) ".
My question is that: is this last step necessary? If jobs has been copied and steps' owner has been changed, why we still need to keep the orginal owner's ID?
We are at 4.6C. Pls share your opinion.
Thanks.
Answer:
I the owner of the background job is deleted from the system, your job won't run...
Regards,
Mark
Answer:
But we've copied the job from the origina ID to the destination ID in previous steps, and later we've changed the owner of the steps to the dest ID. Why is this job still related with the original ID then? Why can't we delete the original ID given it has no relationship with the copied jobs?
I think we should be able to do the following safely:
1. delete all the oroginal jobs
2. delete the oroginal ID
pls correct me if I am wrong
Answer:
In background jobs, there are 2 owners
1) Owner who created the job
2) Owner who run the job
The owner in (2) is important.

Answer:
Suppose we want to copies all jobs of ID A to ID B.
After coping of the jobs, now the new jobs' creator is ID B.
Then after changing owner of all steps to ID B, now jobs' runner is ID B.
Why should I still keep ID A now since it has no relatioship with all the new jobs which now belong to ID B?
Answer:
sap-basis, I am moving your question to the SAP sEcurity forum as this is now security related.

Answer:
Correct me if I am wrong.
Being Frank, job owner/creator does not matter at all only the step owner or associated account running the step or steps definied in the batch job.
Not sure what the requirement is; I know it makes life easier to find a job based on the job owner/creator name.
Worst case go to you test box or crash box, find the the techincal field name via status and then hit the dictionary se11 and find all associated tables or views making use of the field and do it back end if needed.
Better check oss, probably a note out there on this topic or just pose the question to SAP.
