SAP Note

What is SAP Note?

Ans: If a specific problem occur with the mySAP ERP software this problem is corrected, details of the correction are published in a SAP Note.

The correction is also included in the next Support Package. If the problem is urgent and you don’t want to wait for the Support Package, you can manually make the correction with the help of SAP Note.

SAP HotNews

SAP HotNews items are SAP Notes with Priority 1 (very high). These notes contain the solutions to problems that could cause a system breakdown or data loss in the SAP system.

The SAP HotNews enables the user to display only HotNews items that are relevant to your area. Using the personalization option one can create multiple filters for the applications you use like SAP R/3 or SAP SRM. Using the filter maintenance functions, one can also select the product version, software components and support packages that are relevant so that the system returns only the important HotNews items.

SAP TopNotes

SAP TopNotes are important Notes in a module or sub-module (like FI). Every month SAP identifies the 10 most common messages for the component in question (these are the Notes that are emailed most frequently to customer problem messages.)

Always read the Note before you start the implementation, as the Note contains important information about prerequisites and interdependcies and also references to post implementation steps (changes to tables etc). The Note Assistant will not recognise this automatically.

Implementing SAP Notes with the SAP Note Assistant

The Note Assistant is used to import Notes with code corrections. Use tcode SNOTE.

Steps for registering manually implemted SAP Notes

If you implemented corrections from the Notes into your SAP system before installing the Note Assistant, you will need to inform the Note Assistant because the Note Assistant cannot determine if a Note correction is carried out manually.

1) Using tcode SE38 run program SCWN_REGISTER_NOTES.

2) Enter the numbers of the Notes that have been manually implemented.

3) If you have created a RFC connection (SM59) to the SAPNet frontend the program automatically loads the Notes to be registered into your databse.

4) You may prefer to get the Notes from the SAP Service Marketplace. Then, upload the Notes in the Note Assistant.

5) The program will check if the Notes are current and valid for your release and SP level, and also if the Notes are already registered as implemented to prevent duplicates.

6) Select EXECUTE to register the Note.

In order to register the note as implemented the system enters the details of the Note and the objects that it corrected in a change request. Once the change request is transported the Note is registered as implemented even in other systems (QA and PRD). If the Note and its objects are not included in one request due to some objects being locked in other requests, the system will reject registration.
